I’m New Here!

Thanks for visiting our website! We would like to give you a glimpse into our Church family and how God is working in the lives of the people who call Bethesda their church home.

What’s with the Name, Bethesda?

“Bethesda” is actually the name of a pool in the Bible where people who were sick, blind, and lame would gather hoping to be healed. One day Jesus showed up and asked a sick man, “Do you want to get well?” Guess what happened?

Check out John chapter 5 to read the story!

We gather weekly at Bethesda because we believe that Jesus asks us that same question,

Do you want to get well?

We are not perfect people, but we know where healing is found: Through the Words of Jesus.

You are always welcome to stop by and see firsthand what God is up to at 210 W Park St.

Questions we have been asked about our church…

What should I wear?

Sunday mornings are a time when many prefer to dress up a bit; however, feel free to wear whatever clothes make you feel comfortable. We care more that you are here than what you wear.

How long are your services?

About one hour.

What are your services like?

We have a fairly simple order of service centered on hearing God’s Word through a sermon. We also enjoy a few hymns or songs and one of the men from Bethesda typically will read scripture and pray. We have a comfortable, but reverent attitude about our worship service.

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, or be singled out?

Don’t worry, nobody is going to make you stand up and introduce yourself. You will probably be warmly greeted by a few people but not ambushed and cornered or anything like that. We do receive an offering, but don’t feel obligated to give. We have a guestbook that you can sign if you would like.

What about my kids?

We have many kids in our worship service, and you might notice a healthy buzz of activity from them occasionally. So, if you have kids, you’ll likely feel right at home with us. During the school year we also offer Sunday School for kids (and adults) after church from 10:40 – 11:40AM.

What about Religious Education?

Sunday School classes are available for all ages (Pre-K through Adult) at 10:40 – 11:40AM. More information on that is available on the Sunday School page. The adult classes offer a more in-depth exploration of the teachings of the Bible and how they apply to our life today. In addition to our Sunday School, we encourage participation in the Awana program offered Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30PM for ages 3 years – 6th grade during the school year at Grace and Truth Bible Chapel located here in Westby. This program is an international, Bible-Centered children’s and youth ministry.

What kind of church are you?

We are a church that believes that the Bible is the Word of God and is the final authority on who God is, who we are, and how we are to live. We are a member of a family of churches called The Church of the Lutheran Brethren. We have our roots in the historical Lutheran church and have a strong emphasis on a personal faith in Jesus Christ which affects our daily life. Check out our What We Believe page to learn more!
